Description
It can often take years of searching, collecting, refurbishing and rebuilding to restore a car to its original glory. Sometimes the project runs out of steam or, at the worst, never comes to fruition. And sometimes, as in this case, the idea morphs over time into an unexpected “other” that satisfies a new and exciting personal vision.
This 1969 Shelby Resto Mod is built on a foundation of rare Shelby parts collected over a twenty year period, all with the original intent of restoring a ’69 model to original condition. But with the Resto-Mod and Power Tour trends exerting their influence, and designs by Chip Foose and others pointing in a new direction, the car’s builder found a new avenue of expression.

A nut and bolt restoration proceeded, with modern drivability, performance and personal expression as the core tenets. An aluminum-head 428 Cobra Jet, Toploader 4-speed, 9-inch Ford rear end disc-brake combine Shelby-style motivation with up-to-date stopping power. A beautiful two-tone Brilliant Copper and Black paint scheme, incorporating carbon fiber components, carries over into the updated but unmistakably Shelby interior, and is finished off with custom wheels.

The ride is very smooth with its Global West coil over suspension in the front, Total Cost Inc. Monet Carlo Strut system and tubular A-Arms. The rear has been lowered 2 inches. Custom Foose wheels set this car off with 20’s in the rear and 18’s in front. They are wrapped with Nitto 555’s all the way around. Behind the black wheels you will see cross drilled rotors with aluminum hats from Baer. This car will stop on a dime with these brakes.

To duplicate this car would cost well into the six figure range. The detail and craftsmanship show and there is not a car in our inventory that has the eye ball this one does. We have full photo documentation of the restoration process as well as a full size poster of the car that is great for car shows.

The result: a modern hybrid that mixes modern rodding technologies and reliability with that old Shelby flair. This car truly embraces the classic Shelby styling with the modern flair. The list of original Shelby parts are as follows: Front clip, hood, rear deck lid, roll bar, grill, front and rear bumpers, flares, taillights, side air ducts, instrument panel including gauges, door panels and center console.

Inside there has been carbon fiber accents placed throughout as well as Milano carbon fiber racing seats wrapped in leather installed. The fold down rear seat has also been finished in the same matching leather. During restoration there was sound deadening material placed under the Cool Kat floor matting. Steering wheel is tilt and the dash and glass are both new as well as almost everything else in this car.

Under the hood is a new rebuilt 428 Super Cobra Jet with Edelbrock aluminum heads that runs fabulous. When this motor was rebuilt they used the following components: Aluminum heads, aluminum roller rockers, aluminum water pump, aluminum high rise 427 valve covers, Hooker Super Comp headers, Demon 800 Carb, customer ram air air cleaner system, Billet Specialties Tru Trac pump system and Mallory ignition. This is all connected to a rebuilt big block Top Loader 4 speed with hydraulic clutch and Hurst shifter. The rear end is a Ford 9” with 3:73 gears. The VIN is 9R02M174577 and the mileage shows 86421.
